Last night I stopped at the house to see if my gardenias survived the weekend heat (maybe not?) and spotted two men on the roof. They were putting the new gutters on. All the gutters around the house are being replaced, and because we have sort of a funky second floor, there are lots of little roof edges that need gutters. It will also be nice to have a new one along the roof across the front bedroom windows, especially because that little roof-let never really had enough support so the whole thing sagged. Harry and Paul fixed that for us. But, then there's the gutter over the garage that one of Harry's men backed into with their truck --not only did they dent the gutter, they pushed up a couple of roof shingles. I'm glad, I guess, that they didn't back through the garage door. Gutters are kind of like eyebrows that way.
Did you know there was a genre called "gutter poetry"? From WikiAnswers:The origins of Gutter Poetry and Rhyming slang are, to a degree, largely unknown. However, hearsay indicates that its roots are in the Paris of the late eighteenth century. During the period 1790 to 1870 it is believed that an unlikely alliance of writes, beggars, tramps, thieves, cranks and the destitute was formed, later to be labelled the Court of Miracles. Hand-printed on scraps of paper by a network of many small, illegal printing companies, its purpose was deeply political, circulating rumour regarding the bourgeoisie, and was often in code. - Ebbiewebbie
See this website for a book described as Gutter Poetry. And then there is Didi, whose blog is called Gutter Poetry in the Arab Sphere. I can't figure out why she calls it that. Maybe I need to write a gutter poem -- then I'll figure out what it is.
